Symbility (Claims Connect) Roofing Supplements

Not every carrier estimate comes out of Xactimate. Farmers and a group of regional and specialty carriers write theirs in Cotality Claims Connect, the platform everyone still calls Symbility, and a supplement that arrives in the wrong platform is a supplement that gets re-keyed, mis-priced or ignored. Estimate on Demand writes roofing supplements in Symbility as well as Xactimate, in the carrier’s own price list, so the desk adjuster can reconcile the file line for line. This page covers how Symbility files differ and how we handle them; Xactimate roofing supplements has the Xactimate side.

Why the platform matters

A supplement is a comparison document: here is what the carrier wrote, here is what the roof requires, here is the evidence for each difference. That comparison only works when both estimates use the same item database, the same unit conventions and the same regional pricing. Symbility’s item structure, its handling of waste, steep and high charges, and its overhead-and-profit mechanics differ from Xactimate’s, and a converted estimate almost always carries quantity mismatches that the reviewer can dismiss without reading the F9 notes. Writing in the platform removes that excuse. It also lets us deliver the native Symbility file, which imports, rather than a PDF, which does not.

What is the same on a Symbility file

Everything that decides whether a supplement gets approved. The code items adjusters miss most (drip edge, starter, ice-and-water where the adopted code requires it, ventilation, decking, steep and high charges, detach-and-reset), the manufacturer installation requirements, the repair-versus-replace argument built on test squares and brittleness tests, and the written justification on every added line. Our estimators are former carrier field adjusters, and several wrote in Symbility on the carrier side before they wrote supplements against it. The documentation standard in our guide to writing a roofing supplement applies unchanged.

How it works

  • Send the carrier’s Symbility estimate (PDF, and the native file if the carrier will provide it), the roof measurement report, the photo set and the declarations page.
  • A former adjuster reads the estimate against the roof, the adopted code and the manufacturer’s requirements and lists every missing, under-counted or mispriced item.
  • We write the supplement in Symbility, in the carrier’s regional price list, with an F9-style note on every added line, and deliver PDF plus native file within 24 hours of a complete file.
  • We submit it through the channel the carrier prefers and follow up with the desk adjuster until the revised estimate is issued, with a written rebuttal when items are pushed back.

Historically our supplements have averaged about a 28.6% increase over the carrier’s original estimate, with supplements submitted within 24 hours of a complete file and about 19 days from submission to a revised estimate. Those are past averages across many carriers, states and roof types, not a promise about any one claim.

Symbility roofing supplement FAQ

Which carriers use Symbility / Claims Connect?

Cotality (formerly CoreLogic) Claims Connect, still called Symbility by most people in the field, is the estimating platform behind Farmers and a number of regional and specialty carriers, and some independent adjusting firms use it for particular carrier programs. If the carrier’s estimate has the Symbility layout and a Cotality price list rather than an Xactimate one, this is the platform.

Do you write the supplement in Symbility or convert it from Xactimate?

In Symbility. A supplement written in Xactimate and sent to a Symbility carrier gets re-keyed by the desk adjuster, if it gets read at all, and quantities and unit prices never reconcile. We write in the platform and price list the carrier used so the reviewer can compare line for line.

Are the line items and price lists different?

Yes. Symbility uses its own item database, unit structure and regional pricing, and some Xactimate habits (waste application, how steep and high charges are entered, how O&P is applied) work differently. The code items and documentation are the same; the mechanics of putting them on the estimate are not, and that is where most conversions go wrong.

What does a Symbility supplement cost?

The same as an Xactimate one: 10% of the increase between the carrier’s original estimate and the final approved estimate, billed after the job closes. No increase, no fee. No minimums, no platform surcharge.
